TPSA Success Stories on Strengthening the Capacity of Government Partners to Increase Trade and Investment

Read about the successes the TPSA project has achieved in improving the capacity of the Government of Indonesia to increase trade and investment.

  • The Directorate General for National Export Development (DGNED) of the Ministry of Trade is now equipped with and is applying new practical knowledge, strategies, methods, and tools to expand SME exports to Canada and similar markets around the world.
  • The Investment Coordinating Board of Indonesia (BKPM) has gained additional knowledge on effective tools and methods for promoting and facilitating investment and is sharing that knowledge with regional and provincial agencies responsible for this function. Progress is being made towards implementing these tools and methods, and the knowledge shared has been incorporated in BKPM’s training curriculum.
  • Staff of the Ministry of Trade’s Trade Policy Analysis and Development Agency (TREDA) of the Ministry of Trade have gained and are applying new knowledge and skills to fulfill their mandate to support the analysis and development of effective trade policy for the Ministry of Trade and other related stakeholders.
  • Senior management and staff of the Ministry of Trade’s Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance (DGCPTC) have gained and are applying new knowledge on Canadian standards and practices for consumer protection. There is also a new capability in Indonesia to test footwear and apparel products for export in accordance with Canadian standards.
  • Staff from the Ministry of Trade’s Directorate General for Foreign Trade are now applying their new knowledge and skills to better manage, prevent, and resolve situations involving dumping, import surges, and disputes via an improved understanding of the WTO framework.
  • The skills and knowledge of the staff of the Ministry of Trade’s Directorate General of International Trade Cooperation has been increased via several demand-driven learning opportunities. This enhanced capacity is being applied to support the simultaneous negotiation of more than 20 international trade agreements.
