Workshop on Gender-Sensitive Value Chain Analysis

October 10, 2018 - October 12, 2018

- Jakarta

Gender-sensitive research in order to generate evidence to inform trade policies and programs is critical in ensuring that men and women benefit equitably from trade. For this reason, TPSA conducted a workshop on gender-sensitive value chain analysis (GSVCA) for staff from the Ministry of Trade and other stakeholders. GSVCA enables researchers to identify the following:

  • the differing positions and roles of women and men in a given value chain
  • the barriers that women experience when trying to engage in, and benefit from, economic market opportunities
  • the opportunities that exist to support better inclusion of women in the market to ensure greater gender equality
  • policies and interventions that help women and men benefit equitably as entrepreneurs and as workers in value chains

The workshop presenters—Kara Klassen, Canadian GSVCA Expert (Canadian) and Lota Bertulfo, TPSA Senior Gender Advisor—have many years of experience in gender-sensitive value chain analysis of various agricultural and industrial commodities in Asian, African, and South American settings, and led the participants in a review of the theoretical and actual applications of GSVCA in Indonesia.
